Historic Aiken Foundation


Purpose
The purpose of the non-profit Historic Aiken Foundation shall be to promote acquire, hold, improve, preserve, develop and restore sites, buildings, residences and structures of historical or architectural interest or value in aiken county, South Caroline, for historic, aesthetic and educational purposes; to preserve neighborhood design in mass and proportion and to increase and diffuse a greater appreciation of such sites and structures among the general public.

Programs and Activities

   General membership meetings with programs related to historic preservation
   Regular representation at City Council and Design Review Board meetings
   Publish a minimum of two newsletters per year
   Participation as members of the Aiken Chamber of Commerce
   Accept and maintain easements on significant historic structures

Accomplishments

   Publishing 2nd edition of A Splendid Time picture book of historic homes and buildings in Aiken
   Collaborate with the City of Aiken in maintaining Coker Spring
   Provided funding for the Center for African–American History, Arts and Culture
   Present workshops for the public on relevant topics
   Co-Sponsored historic site markers with Aiken County Historical Society
